Other Happenings:

Well, where shall I begin...

I think I should give a brief explanation for my absence from blogging for so long. No it's not the seizures, it was in fact a lack of faith in myself. I felt that my thoughts were not reaching enough people and that no one really read this, but I have found more self courage as spring creeps into view, and the promise of new life beckons me. So I apologize for not having blogged in a long time, but hope now to interest you all and incite more people to come visit me!

On to the actual blogging:

You know of my seizures. I think there is really only one other big thing to discuss right now. That being my books.

Now...I doubt this severly, but I will say it anyway, you may have noticed that I no longer offer my book, A Thousand Winks of the Sun, for free. Nor do I offer A downloadable version of my publishing guide for free. The reason for this is I was approached by a Mr. Paul Williams who represents The Amber Group, a collection of businesses which deal with talents of all sorts, primarily models and actors, but he is apparently diversifying into literature as well.

He offered me a free listing on his website http://www.ambertalent.co.uk Needless to say I wasn't about to turn down a free listing of my works. He is also working on other ways of promoting my work, which I will not go into at this time, but should they work out I will be sure to write it almost immediately. I am not yet listed on his site, but will be sure to put that link up as soon as I receive it.

So unfortunately I felt it best to remove my free copies of my book from my website, I apologize for having to do this, but it seems only right given the circumstances. I only hope that you might consider buying the book for only..approx. $10 or 4.99 pounds for A Thousand Winks of the Sun, and .99 pounds for the publishing guide.

So I thank all who have already downloaded my book, and hope you are enjoying it. To those who have not yet obtained it, I do hope you consider purchasing it, for the very low price it is listed at. I shall let you all know how the rest of my deal goes with Mr. Williams.

Thank you one last time,

Curtis L_

The account of my seizures to date.

A Quick Update:

So, I have been having random seizures since December.

I had the first one about the 10th. It occured while I was sleeping. I fell out of my top bunk at school, hitting my head and landing with most of my weight on my left shoulder which broke my clavicle. I also bit my tongue. Only one of my roommates stirred and ask why I was sleeping on the floor. He then roused another of my roommates who tried to shake me awake as I shook an moaned "chills" I have no memory of these things. The first thing I remember was being in the ambulance. I spent several hours in the Hospital and then returned to school just in time to take two finals. then pass out to miss my third, which I was later allowed to make up. After all this was cleared up I later had to get surgery to suture the clavicle back together and now have a small scar on my head, and a particularly large one on my shoulder..obviously. Returning to school my roommates ragged on me for a while and eventually it dropped as nothing more than me being a really restless sleeper.

Revisiting these things now though the question remains though, did I fall out of bed which caused the seizure, or did I seizure which caused the fall? The reason I say this is because, we moved the beds that night. We moved them away from the wall, so is it possible I fell out of bed first then the head trauma which ensued caused my seizure? Or did I have a random seizure which resulted in painful aftermath? Also were there outside factors such as Finals stress, and/or lack of sleep?

The second incidence was in mid January at home. I awoke with dried blood in my mouth on the floor wrapped in my blankets. I had bitten my tongue once more. I washed my mouth out and examined myself. I seemed mostly ok. When my mom got home I told her of the way I had awoken. I was slightly disoriented, but had no specific memory of falling out of bed. I have always been a sound sleeper. Then went to a doctor and was examined to ensure I was "ok." My arm appeared fine, and I was otherwise in good health. At this point I was advised by a good friend of mine to see a Neurologist to discuss what had happened. I took this advice and made an appointment.

Once more looking back the question here is, did I have a seizure or did I just happen to fall out of my bed, which was considerably closer to the ground than my dorm room, bunk bed luckily. Why this second instance of biting my tongue and falling out of bed?

At this appointment we discussed exactly what happened, and I made sure to make it clear we have no specific evidence of a seizure, however, I did forget to mention moving the beds in the night before the 10th which may have caused the initial fall. It was determined I needed an EEG and an MRI and was classified as a concussion for the time being. The appointments were scheduled for the third week of March, my spring break.

On the first day of March at approximately 1:30 in the afternoon I was about to eat breakfast after sleeping particularly late, when a sudden panic attack ensued. I resorted to deep breathing exercises to calm myself, and the next memory I have is waking up in the ambulance. I was told by those around me at the time I began to convulse and make strange nosies, as well as spit up. Luckily my roommates having some experience from my first "seizure" laid me down and sought help. I spent the next 24 hours in the hospital with an IV in my arm. There were tests run on my blood, and my parents were notified.

Once my memory returned the hospital was really quite boring, and seemingly unnecessary. I awaited a neurologist's visit Sunday morning with the promise of an EEG, however none was given, instead he asked if I wanted to wait in the hospital until Monday morning to get one done. I opted out, however I was given a week's supply of dilantin, an anti-seizure medication with the advice I see my doctor and move my EEG and MRI closer.

After much confusion and many conversations with my parents it was found impossible given my class and work schedule to move the appointments any closer. However I would like to point out, the 19 floor hospital which I was taken to, Nassau University Medical Center, only does one EEG a day on weekdays and none on weekends which strikes me as rather limited for such a large community.

With all this down, I am now awaiting the third week of March, my spring break, so I may return home to NJ where I can get my EEG and my MRI done to determine what it is exactly that is wrong with me, and to get the right medicines. I hope this has been helpful and interesting for anyone who was interested or curious.

Also, I appreciate the sympathy from all, but don't worry too much I am not overly concerned so neither should you be.
